About this place .... |
From my story - you've learned that I'm from New Jersey very close to the shore. I've had withdrawal symptoms from not having sea water flowing over my toes.

I heard there was going to be a super moon on November 14th 2016 and interpreted that celestial sign to mean I needed to go to the beach! While it is no longer 15 minutes away, the trek to the shore is an easy and straight ride - although 5-6 hours. I got a quick reservation at the Desoto Beach Hotel. This hotel was right on the water (and other than the obvious reason, that became important later on).
I got there at check-in time and got myself comfy. It was a bit on the cold side, but I'm OK with that. It meant for the most part I had the beach to myself. However it was grey and cloudy most of the time as you can see from the photos. This had me worried as - since I've moved to Georgia - most celestial events have been cancelled due to weather. I had given up on seeing the super moon, when I noticed people gathering at the shoreline. Now, my eyesight has never been good at night and I saw what looked like a cruise ship dotted in red lights. It took me a few to realize - SUPER MOON was coming. I grabbed my camera and raced to shore (my racing is not all that fast) and was able to get some good shots. It also was just a special community feel as the group of us watched the moon come up.
The following morning the sun was almost prettier than the super moon. The first three pictures in the gallery are of the sun. The last three are of the moon the night before. I then went to go visit the city of Savannah - but due to the tide and the moon I couldn't get there early. I only had a couple hours to visit but would love to go back and spend more time in the city proper. I fully intend to go back and visit and won't wait for another super moon.
